Amino Lean (AminoLean) RSP Nutrition – Our Review

Amino Lean from RSPAminoLean is RSP’s answer to the torrent of BCAA and amino acid based workout supplements which have bludgeoned the bodybuilding and sports supplement market in recent years.

BCAAs and amino acids have been popular with athletes, gym goers, sportsmen and sportswomen for a long time due to the fact that were scientifically proven ergogenic supplements (those which improves physical performance/physique) in the early days of such science.

It’s simple really, amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Proteins are the building blocks of muscle tissue…you’ve heard it all countless times before.

The difference is that BCAAs have been studied continually since the good old days and there’s nothing supplement companies like more than ingredients which proven themselves time and time again, and become more versatile with it.

These days, said companies can add claims like – “Leucine triggers mTOR signalling for anabolic muscle growth” or “Valine competes with tryptophan in the brain and wins, which reduces fatigue during exercise” or “Isoleucine promotes fat burning and prevents fat storage.”

All of these claims have some weight to a certain extent, but for us there’s no real need to keep up the hard-sell where BCAAs are concerned – we know they work and they are good for several reasons (which we’ll get to) but it’s whether they are included in the supplement at effective quantities, and furthermore, what additional ingredients are paired with them to make the product more powerful or diverse.

Those are the real points to consider when you are looking at one of these workout supplements.

Let’s see if RSP have got it right with AminoLean…

Promised Benefits of AminoLean

AminoLean is intended to help the user:

  • Build Muscle
  • Boost Energy Levels
  • Burn Fat

Bench Man Woman SpottingIt’s essentially an all-round workout formula – like most supplements in the same category – and a change from the usual stimulant riddled pre-workout drink mixes that are also available.

BCAAs are a prominent feature of the formula because they have roles to play in all of the above advertised benefits. What makes BCAAs unique in the amino acid group is their structure, which allows them to be used directly inside muscle tissue as a source of fuel for contraction force and repetition endurance.

Leucine is famous for its ability to stimulate the mTOR pathway in the muscle growth process. In short: it triggers protein synthesis, thereby helping you grow muscle from your resistance training and stemming the flow of catabolism.

Isoleucine, another BCAA, has been shown (in early research) to promote the usage of stored fat as fuel. Additionally, it may prevent the storage of new dietary fat.

Valine has a unique and different effect when supplemented. During exercise, we experience the effects of increasing serotonin levels, which ultimately makes us tired. Valine actually competes with tryptophan – the fatigue hormone that serotonin increases – in the brain, and more often than not wins. This victory means that tryptophan is blocked from having its effect. Thus, Valine can be viewed as having an anti-fatigue effect.

AminoLean actually contains the full spectrum of essential amino acids, the effects of which range from increased blood flow to improved cognitive function. All good benefits during a workout.

On top of this, there is a dedicated “Weight Management Blend” that includes ingredients associated with a reduction in body fat.

Finally there’s an energy and focus element in caffeine, sourced from the green tea (in the weight management blend) and Theobromine.

Key Ingredients and Formula Potential

The following equate to 7.8g of AminoLean (2 scoops / 1 serving).

Amino Acid Blend – 5,000mg (5 grams)

  • L-Taurine, Beta Alanine, L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine, L-Glutamine, L-Citrulline, L-Arginine, L-Tyrosine, L-Histidine, L-Lysine Hydrochloride, L-Phenylalanine, L-Threonine, L-Methionine

Weight Management Blend – 1,500 mg (1.5 grams)

  • Conjugated Linoleic Acid Powder, L-Carnitine L-Tartrate, Green Tea Extract, Green Coffee Extract

Natural Energy and Focus Blend

  • Caffeine (from green tea above) and Theobromine

Important to Note: There are 30 servings per container. A single serving is 2 scoops. RSP warn users against exceeding 8 scoops in a 24 hour period OR 6 scoops in a 4 hour period.

We have no problem with the Amino Acid Blend. There’s not much you can do different than what RSP have here.

The Weight Management Blend has a couple of good ingredients in L-Carnitine and Green Tea but they are more useful to us here as energy providers than fat burners.

Side Effects and Health Considerations

doctorThis supplement should only be used by adults who exercise on a regular basis.

Those who should not use AminoLean are Pregnant and Breastfeeding women, Children, Elderly people and those suffering from a medical condition which precludes the use of such supplements (check with your doctor), and those who are on prescription meds (again, check with your doc).

The average user should be fine with this product but we’d exercise caution and start with a single scoop (half serving) to assess tolerance.

Conclusion and Recommendations

Blackwolf Supplement TubAminoLean is a solid supplement for energy and faster recovery/growth from a workout. It’s not a dramatic difference in terms of muscle increase but the pre-workout and intra-workout effects on power levels are decent enough.

We’d prefer not to have the weight management blend in there to be honest. It seems RSP just want to put that stuff in everything but really, you just become immune to their effects if you have them in all the supplements.

The BEST workout supplements in the Amino Acid and general workout energy/muscle class are those manufactured by BLACKWOLF.

Blackwolf have dedicated their business to these types of workout products and they have the biggest and most effective (huge 30 gram scoops!!) blends of ingredients.

Cellucor C4 50X by Cellucor – Pre-Workout Supplement – Review

Cellucor C4 50x IF you’ve been using pre-workout supplements for a while then you’ve no doubt already heard of the Cellucor C4 line of products.

It all started with C4, the potently flavoured, luminously coloured powder in a dangerous looking chrome and hazard yellow tub.

Since then we have seen the release of C4 Ripped and C4 Mass, C4 On The Go, C4 Zero, C4 Extreme Energy, C4 Ultimate….who knows, by the time this review is finished, they may have released another one.

Good old original C4 is still there too, and it’s called…oh yes – C4 Original.

C4 50x is one of the latest. Cellucor says it’s for “…the extremist…” …. Interesting choice of words.

Well…even the extremists amongst us need energy for their workouts.

Anyway, this review is about C4 50x because it’s different from all the others.

We promise.

What’s the Best Pre-Workout supplement in the business? CLICK HERE and find out

Advertised Benefits

Let’s begin with addressing this “50x” business. Turns out, it means “50% more explosive”. So not 50x, then!

Either way, it’s referring to the fact that there are approximately 50% more of the ingredients per scoop that were considered the power ingredients of C4 Extreme.

There are also a couple of additional inclusions to mention: TeaCor and XCELICOR. We’ll discuss these more in the Ingredients section below but they are essentially there for additional energy and longer lasting energy respectively.

C4 50x promises the following benefits:

  • 50% More Explosive Formula
  • TeaCor for more energy
  • XCELLICOR for fast acting energy which lasts longer

So unless you are particularly sensitive to C4 Original or C4 Extreme, this seems to be the upgraded version.

Key Ingredients and Formula Potential

Each 9g serving scoop of Cellucor C4 50x contains the ingredients below:

Cellucor C4 50x Label

The usual blend of vitamins and minerals are there. As with most Cellucor supplements it’s quite an extensive list of base vitamins and micro-nutrients, making sure you have the essentials right as well as the fancy stuff.

Moving on to the main formula, not that much has changed in terms of the layout from the original C4 series.

Beta Alanine is still present at a reasonable dose of 2.4g. The tingly feeling people associate with C4 is still there, along with that perceptible boost in set power.

Creatine is included in the compound form of Creatine Nitrate. How useful this is depends on whether you take creatine monohydrate as a separate supplement or add it to your protein after workouts or whatever.

Girl with Large Supplement TubEssentially, creatine works by saturating your cells and really only needs to be topped up daily with about 3 to 6 grams. During workouts, your muscles then use it to make ATP and thus convert it to energy.

The idea that 1.5 grams of Creatine will do much for you is a creative one that lingers like a bad smell in the bodybuilding industry. Creatine Monohydrate is a wonderful and well proven strength supplement. You can buy about 6 month’s worth for less than a tub of C4 50x.

Interpret that how you want!

Arginine AKG (AAKG) at 1.5 grams. A decent enough Nitric Oxide booster (for the ‘muscle pump’) but not as good as L-Citrulline at doing the same thing. Also, again. under-dosed in our opinion.

The rest of the main blend is packed into 557mg of a proprietary formula called C4 50x Explosion Blend.

True to form it contains the usual suspect, Caffeine, although the dose is of course unknown.

N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine (NALT) is a nootropic/cognitive stimulant which can help with focus and regulation of stress levels.

XCELICOR, one of the new ingredients, is a ‘cocrystal’ of Caffeine and Pterostilbene. The advantages of this beyond the obvious energy boosting implication isn’t entirely obvious, though it might have something to do with the reduction of blood pressure and/or increased metabolism of fat.

TeaCor – the other new ingredient – appears to be a re-named Theacrine, which itself is another form of caffeine sourced from tea.

The tagline for TeaCor is “hits like the first time every time”. This is a reference to the theory that Theacrine dose not have a tolerance curve like plain old caffeine. For habitual consumers of caffeine, that’s good news because regular caffeine is useless for energy after a few weeks of consistent use.

So, then. Caffeine, caffeine and more caffeine appears to be the C4 50x way to get you jacked up for a workout.

Just lay off the coffee while you’re using this stuff okay!

Side Effects and Health Considerations

DoctorIf it wasn’t already blindingly obvious at this point, then we’ll try our best here: you need to think about your other caffeine intake during the day. If you drink coffee daily, stop. If you are using any other supplements, make sure they don’t contain caffeine.

The fact is, we don’t know how much caffeine is actually in C4 50x but we know it when we feel it, and it is definitely a huge part of this product.

For people sensitive to stimulants, a full 9 gram dose of this might be a little nauseating to begin with. Dizziness, headaches and heart palpitation are also possible. Just don’t chug a shaker with a 9g scoop and then belt out the most intense workout you’ve ever done.

Take your time, dose less if necessary and do not use this if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, on medication, have a medical condition, or otherwise feel it might not be the best for you.

Now, on to brighter subjects. Don’t worry about the tingles or the flushed feeling. These are both normal effects of Beta Alanine and the Niacin in the vitamin suite. We’ve always enjoyed this feeling, but again if it isn’t for you then back off the dose or simply stop using it.

Conclusion and Recommendations

4Gauge Pre-Workout

4Gauge is our pre-workout of choice

If you like that tingly, red-faced, kind of grubby energy you get from C4 then you are going to like C4 50x even more.

Of course, like all its predecessors, the flavours are simultaneously face-melting and oddly delicious. Who knows what’s going on there but we like it. The watermelon is the one to go for in our opinion.

To sum it up, Cellucor know what they are doing with pre-workouts at this point. This is just what it says it is: a more intense version of the original.

Will we use it again? Probably not. We look for a more varied and muscle-focused pre-workout like 4Gauge. Follow the link to check out the review…

4 Gauge – The Best Pre-Workout Available? Find Out

4Gauge Pre-Workout 4 GAUGE is pre-workout and muscle pump supplement sold in a tub that resembles a 4 Gauge shotgun cartridge. It’s manufactured in Britain by Roar Ambition and the company claims the product provides the “most effective, explosive, and focussed workout experience possible”.

4 Gauge is a powder. It has to be mixed with water and consumed as “Fruit Punch” flavoured drink.

Shake-type supplements generally get to work faster than tablets and pills, so this is no bad thing, and a powder is a fitting option for a supplement packed inside a shotgun cartridge-type tub.

How the Formulation is Designed to Work

Like any other pre-workout supplement, 4 Gauge is intended to boost mental focus and help people overcome the feeling of tiredness that can prevent them from giving it their all in the gym.

However, the combination of quality ingredients and generous quantities gives 4 Gauge and edge and allows it to blow the competition away.

Key Ingredients & Blend Potential

Each 14g serving provides:

4Gauge Workout L-Citrulline Dl-Malate (6000mg): An amino acid sourced from watermelons. L-Citrulline Dl-Malate has a reputation for delivering intense muscle pumps, enhancing endurance, and reducing post-exercise recovery times. Scientific study shows the ingredient also boosts human growth hormone (HGH) production rates.

Red Beet Root Extract (300mg): Beetroot contains nitrates that can open up the blood vessels and ensure the muscles receive the extra nutrients they require to train hard and grow. The performance boosting abilities of beetroot have been well documented and 300mg appears to be the optimum dose.

Creatine Monohydrate (1000mg): An ingredient that became popular during the early 1990s. Creatine has value both as a performance booster and as a muscle growth enhancer. It’s abilities in both regards are so well known many athletes use creatine powder as a stand-alone supplement.

Acetyl L-Carnitine (500mg): An amino acid that is held in high esteem for its ability to prevent the onset of fatigue and help people to up their game in the gym. Research shows it also “optimizes the processes of muscle tissue repair and remodelling”.

Coconut Water Powder (300mg): A nutritious ingredient that is often disregarded by supplement manufacturers. This is a pity because coconut water is such a good energy booster Dr Mercola believes it is superior to branded energy drinks.
Caffeine Anhydrous (150mg): A stimulant that intensifies mental focus and boosts energy levels. Caffeine also burns body fat, so its presence here may help improve muscle definition as well.

L-Theanine (200mg): A tea extract that is a good energy provider in its own right and also has the ability to ensure caffeine consumption does not result in jitters or crash.

Rhodiola Rosea (Root) Powder (100mg): A herbal extract that boosts physical performance and endurance.

How to Use 4 Gauge: 4 Gauge should be taken 15 to 45 minutes before training. It is up to each individual to find the time that works best for them and the effects can last for up to four hours.

To make the drink, mix two scoops of powder with 300-350ml of water. People who want to start their workout with an extra bang can do so by doubling the dose, but Roar Ambition recommend new users try the standard dose first. For best results, 4 Gauge should be used in a cycle of six to eight weeks on followed by one week off.

Customer Testimonials

Some average comments read:

“I had a few doubts at first, but 4 Gauge has blown them away. It gives me the energy I need and stops my mind from wandering while I train. There have been no side effects and it tastes good too.”

“4 Gauge is the best tasting workout booster I’ve tried so far. It’s also the only one that has helped me to make any progress. My pecs and biceps are noticeably larger now and I’m squatting more than I ever thought possible. This is seriously good stuff.”

“This is dynamite. I used to find it hard to find the energy to train. Now I drink a glass of 4 Gauge half an hour before training and it makes such a big difference. I’m doing more reps, piling extra weight on the bar and don’t need to rest so long between sets. The pumps are incredible and I’m gaining lots of extra muscle.”

“Judging by my own experience, most pre-workout supps don’t work. 4 Gauge is the exception. It makes me feel like superman every time I hit the track or attend the gym. It’s easy to mix and tastes good as well. What more could anyone want?”

Side Effects & Health Considerations

doctorNo side effects have been reported, but common sense dictates 4 Gauge is unlikely to be suitable for women who are pregnant of nursing a child.

Anyone who has health issues should play it safe and check with their GP before taking any brand of dietary supplement.

People who are taking medication, or intending using several supplements together, are also advised to check with a doctor before doing so.

Where to Buy 4 Gauge

It’s only available on the website (which is linked below) but this was fine for us since the delivery is free worldwide for the package we bought.
